It is always good to teach children to be nice to their playmates and not tease them. It is also good to teach children that when something happens that they think is mean or unfair, they should forgive that person who has hurt, used or abused them.

First, it is important to understand WHO is responsible - that the person responsible for the killing at V-Tech was Cho Seung-hui, the shooter. It is not the responsibility of the kids who teased him in middle school, video games, or violent movies, or guns, or university officials or mental health officials, although in some ways these things may have contributed.

Second, it is important to understand WHY Cho killed the people.

Cho Seung-hui said, "you made me do it", "you could have stopped me". To him the killing made sense. It was necessary.

Cho was jealous of those who were richer and privileged. In his videotaped manifesto-like diatribe that he mailed to NBC. Cho Seung-hui said, "You had everything you wanted. Your Mercedes wasn't enough, you brats. Your golden necklaces weren't enough, you snobs. Your trust fund wasn't enough. Your vodka and cognac weren't enough. All your debaucheries weren't enough. Those weren't enough to fulfill your hedonistic needs. You had everything." The 1,800-word manifesto-like diatribe in which he expresses rage, resentment and a desire to get even that he mailed to NBC tells how he felt.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/18/vtech.shooting/index.html

For Cho, the anger, resentment and rage had built up for so long that he needed a release. So to him, the killing was necessary.

People who have not suffered similarly have little concept of how devastating that kind of anger can be.

Help was available to Cho. He refused. He possibly had a personality disorder that was exacerbated by sleep deprivation.

The reason that Cho Seung-hui committed all those murders is anger. He had anger dated back to when kids teased and bullied him. He was jealous of those more affluent than he. He built up the anger, resentment and rage in his heart until he hatched a gruesome fantasy to go on a rampage. It is not the violent movies that he watched that caused him to kill, it is the anger in his heart. He could have chosen to forgive all those who had hurt, used or abused him and then he would have been free of the ruminations of rage that coursed through his veins.

The school/workplace shootings will not stop until people learn to forgive. It is anger that destroys a person not headlines that give them inspiration.

It is anger coupled with hopelessness. Such a person feels that there is no other alternative. It is the only way to feel relief from the anger.

Anger, rage, resentment. Feeling that everything is unfair, unjust, hopless. Ruminating. Not being willing to forgive and let go. Envy, jealousy and more rage.

Now contrast that with a person who is able to forgive others, forgive everone who has ever hurt, used or abused them.....that person will have the fruit of the spirit....love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, temperance and faith.

No one can control the bad things that happen to them. However, anyone can control the way he handles it.

If a person struggles with anger and depression he can seek help from a religious counselor or psychologist.

Dr. Theodore Millon, dean and scientific director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Personology and Psychopathology in Coral Gables, Fla. said, Mr. Cho’s taped rants, and his peers’ descriptions of him as a classmate, suggest a blend of severe and specific personality problems.

People with so-called avoidant personality disorder shun social situations because of a paralyzing dread of disapproval or criticism. Those with paranoid personality disorder nourish a deep distrust of others and see insults and malicious meanings in almost every interaction. Both are stubborn patterns of behavior that can begin in adolescence or earlier. In his book, “Disorders of Personality” (Wiley, 1996), Dr. Millon identifies a blend of the two as “insular paranoid” disorder. “Such people feel persecuted, deeply isolated, that the world rejects them, and they will often replace the real world with an inner one in which they act out their fantasies,” Dr. Millon said, adding that this inner world can be elaborate, a “pseudo-community” modeled after the real one in which they live. “The acting out usually stops there,” Dr. Millon said. “Only in rare circumstances do they confuse reality with this inner world.”

Anita Godfrey, president of the Mental Health Association of Broward County, said that many people recovering from mental illness lead productive lives. "Mental illness alone is not a predictor of violent crime," she said. Godfrey noted that the onset of serious mental illness often occurs between ages 17 and 24. In many cases, the person refuses to believe he is ill and does not comply with treatment or medication.

Cho Seung-hui suffered from coming to the US at age 8, being different, possible being autistic/asperger's and being teased. He reacted by becoming angry and ruminating until he exploded in rage. What about how he felt that his older sister went to Princeton and he only went to Virginia Tech?

Cho Seung-Hui was picked on, pushed around and laughed at over his shyness and the strange way he talked when he was a schoolboy.

http://www.edmontonsun.com/news/world/20...

People get dumped on every day but they do not become mass murderers, they learn to cope. It is part of growing up.

Bullying may have caused Cho to detach from from society and internalize anger/pain/hate to the point of insanity.

***Life is not fair. ***
A person can only control his own reaction not what other people do to him. You know... the serenity prayer....

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time.

The people who go through 12-step programs learn to cope with all their problems because of learning that principle.

I was teased a lot when I was a kid. I cried. I learned. I struggled. I became stronger. I forgave. I did not keep the anger, resentment and "feel sorry for me" attitude.

Soooo many people tried to help Cho. He would not let them.

Lucinda Roy, the Director of Creative Writing, urged him to go to counselking ....but he would not go.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007...
“I kept saying, ‘Please go to counseling; I will take you to counseling,’ because he was so depressed,” Roy said. But “I was told [by counselors] that you can’t force anybody to go over ... so their hands were tied, too.”

Cho snapped from HIS reaction to adversity. He ruminated. He felt he deserved to be treated better. Only for Cho were the killings necessary. He was unwilling to forgive and he got to the point where he needed to release his anger.

Son you are exactly the kind of person we should worry about. life is full of aggravations and disapointments and if you still young enough you should get a grip on that now and lighten up. Life is stressful but this individual did not have enough guts to take his own life and end his sorry miserable life but had to attack innocent people who someday may have made a difference in this world. This puke of human garbage does not know what real stress that vets of myself endured in combat but used that only as an excuse to satisfy his sadistic hunger. have a nice son and please go get some help now.

The people in Iraq are inundated with news about the deaths there.
If you lived in Iraq then you'd be complaining about that?
This is USA news....big news and as long as the public shows interest in knowing more about what happened it will continue to make the news.
Get over it if YOU personally aren't interested in it and watch or read something else.
