are specialized schools like Brooklyn tech and Stuy really worth it?
I read the news the other day called “Stuy hype” that these schools have no big impact on the sats only on the regions. (NYpost). And one person said that”since colleges don’t look at regions anyway”. And are these schools level higher than regular schools? How are they higher anyway? I mean don’t all high schools teach the same stuff???? The teachers just have to teach it and students like have to earn it! Or is it that the teachers in specialized schools are better teachers???

Why is it that mentally ill people (like the VA Tech killer) never lose control and do positive things?
Please let me clarify- why is it that mentally ill people, when and if they ‘lose control’, never go crazy and do something either positive or neutral?
It seems like whenever someone becomes “insane” they invariably commit crimes, such as murder, rape, assault, etc. Is this a true statement, or is this simply the result of what the media chooses to show the masses? “No news is good news” it has been said. So has anyone who is either mentally ill or “normal” (whatever that means) ever lost control and actually done something positive in order to get attention?
If they wish to get attention (people like the V Tech murderer), why would people like that never elect to do something positive or beneficial to humankind? For example, instead of slaughtering innocent people, how about helping the homeless find jobs? Or, caring for people who are elderly?
Am I just being idealistic and naive here?

Earlier this week, engineers from rock star Google has allowed this massive undertaking – the population -
for Facebook, which has about 2,000 employees. 23,000 withdrawal by Lars Rasmussen, co-creator of Google Maps and Google Wave, is one example, but it raises interesting questions about the technological innovation of enterprises uncertain:
Can companies grow and continue to be be creative and innovative? Or will smaller operations always have a monopoly in the new-ideas department?
This is especially pressing because, with this latest project, the highly ambitious e-mail replacement software called Google Wave, Rasmussen was trying to prove to himself and to Google that innovation is possible at an enormous company.

The Google Wave team operated like a start-up within that search-engine giant. They set up an office in Sydney, Australia, far from Google’s California headquarters, worked largely in secret (rare at a company known for its internal openness), and agreed upon incentives that would reward them if Wave succeeded — injecting some risk-reward pressure into the corporate mix.
All of that failed spectacularly. Google decided to kill Wave in August, although CEO Eric Schmidt told reporters that Google would adapt some of the back-end technology into other products.
Despite this evidence to the contrary, some business-types defend Google and the ability of big companies to come up with fresh ideas — if they’re willing to make that a priority.
“I don’t think there’s any reason why you can’t be as big as Goliath and as nimble as David,” said Jim Andrew, a senior partner at the Boston Consulting Group, which publishes a yearly list of the world’s top innovative companies in conjunction with Bloomberg Businessweek. This year, Apple, Google, Microsoft and IBM led the list. Facebook and Twitter were nowhere to be found.
“Big companies have a tremendous number of advantages that should allow them to actually be, I would argue, more innovative than a given smaller company,” Andrew said.
Chief among these advantages, of course, is money.
If a small company has a great idea, it may not be able to pull it off and bring it to market because it doesn’t have the cash to do so, he said. Big companies, by contrast, can easily “scale” something new.
On the other hand, the internet and cloud computing have greatly reduced the cost of starting and growing a tech company. Some start-ups — from Twitter to Tumblr — only need employees and server space to make their business models work. The computer power can be rented from companies like Amazon, which only charge websites for the amount of server space they use.
Another advantage: Big companies are capable of taking big risks.
The tech giants tend to have a wide range of products or services to offer — meaning they can take bets on new ideas without risking their entire business, Andrew said. Start-ups, in contrast, tend to base their future on a single product or concept. They bet big, but most of them “end up dying,” said Karim Lakhani, an assistant professor at Harvard Business School. “They go out there, they try different things and then there’s a large, large failure rate,” he said.
But small companies tend to have fewer rules, which can lead to employees having more time to be creative — and this kind of spirit just attracts more idea people.
New entrepreneurs also tend to be incredibly motivated. Seth Priebatsch, CEO of a start-up app called SCVNGR, keeps a sleeping bag under his couch so he can sleep in the office. Any time he spends not working on the app makes him feel guilty — because he worries someone else will beat him out.
And that type of work ethic is normal in the start-up world.
Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley operated earlier this year in an office with several other start-up companies, with his employees sitting at long cafeteria tables instead of desks. For some, those kinds of environments are conducive to intense work and throw-out-the-old-model thinking.
But big companies are capable of letting loose the reins and motivating employees, too.
Google, for example, famously gives its engineers 20 percent of their work time to spend on pet projects of their choosing.
Lakhani praised Google’s decision to experiment with Google Wave. It shows that the company is interested in trying new things and recognizing failures early on. The system wasn’t broken, he said — just the product.
“I applauded Google’s decision both to release it early and then to shut it down when they thought it was not going to go anywhere,” he said. “What they learned from Google Wave is that it was a technology looking for a problem — a solution looking for a problem.”
Google spokesman Aaron Zamost also said Google Wave is a success story in that it shows the big company is willing to take risks and will continue to do so.
“We want to resist large company syndrome,” he said. “Google is big — but Google is scrappy.”
Both Lakhani and Andrew said it’s easy for big companies to get too comfortable and forgo the risks that are necessary for innovation to occur.
Microsoft, for example, has done a good job of recognizing new trends and jumping on them, he said, citing the company’s decision to jump into console gaming, mobile phones and Web apps. Others, particularly high-end PC manufacturers, haven’t had such success in breaking down old business models and starting anew, he said.
Since the width of the largest employees are creative, unfortunately, often acquire more rigid governance structures and philosophies more rigid, Lakhani said. Maybe teaching a growth of Facebook can learn.
As the New York Times points out, some of the fathers of Facebook are now in motion to start their own business.

Finding an Internet Marketing Resource is Like Shopping for Shoes
Writing through the eyes of a person still very “green’ or “wet behind the ears” to the concept of how to find a good Internet Marketing resource really reminded me of shopping for new pair of shoes.
Step #1: Off To The Shoe Store
So what is the first thing you do when shopping for a pair of new shoes, obviously you head for your local shoe stone to look around. As a “newbie” to the world of Internet Marketing, I head for my computer to look for Internet Marketing resources online. Googling this term “Internet Marketing” or perhaps a phrase like “Internet Marketing resource” is like entering the doors of a huge shoe store! The shelves, or in this case, the Internet, is jammed with all kind of products for your inspection. Each one competing for your attention and eventually your hard earned dollars.
Step #2: Browsing The Merchandise
If you are like me, I like to browse around to see what is available in my area of interest before seeking the help of the sales people. Others I know prefer to go directly to the sales people first, get advice and then browse in their area of interest. So that means steps #2 and #3, may be done in reverse order, depending on your shopping style. So to continue, rather than walking around the shoe store, as a person interested in a good Internet Marketing resource you are browsing the Internet listings by clicking on various websites to read what the authors have to say, or perhaps you go to the paid advertisements and click on some of interest.
Step #3: The Sales Pitches
Sooner of later, you will seek out a shoe store clerk, or they will notice you browsing and approach you. In the Internet Marketing world, this process is often started after you read a marketing article, a product review, or a paid sales advertisement, and are taken to what is sometimes called a “pitch page” or a “landing page”. This is where someone is going to tell you all the many reasons why buying this product is going to make you very successful and rich as an Internet Marketer, it is a “one of a kind product”, “best of the best”, etc.. Just like the shoe store clerk telling you all the advantages of buying the shoes they are describing to you based on appearance, durability, level of comfort, and other features designed to make each shoe “the one you just have to have”.
Often a shoe store will have “specials” or brochures available to view as well to promote products in the store and your Internet Marketing resource search experience is no different. Instead what will often happen is that some website “pitch pages” will have gimmicks to obtain your e-mail address, often in the form of a free downloadable information product related to some aspect of Internet Marketing. Often these are very good products and merchants know that we all like to “get something for free”. What you may not realize is by doing so, you are opening the door to a flood of e-mails, from the merchant themselves or their affiliates (online sales people), who try once again to persuade you one more time to buy their Internet Marketing resource. Once on their mailing list, don’t be surprised to see weekly e-mails in your in-box from the same merchant or their affiliates as the aim here is to “stay current” in the hope you will reconsider and buy their product or another merchant’s produce with whom they are working together in a joint venture. The old “you help me and I will help you” to promote and sell our products is the idea here.
Step #4: Trying On The Product
After listening to the sales pitches, either from your shoe store clerk, or visiting a number of “pitch pages” in your Internet Marketing resource search and reading the sales e-mails you probably have flooding your e-mail in-box, it is time to start trying on the products to see what “fits” or will work best for you. As you well know with shoes, one size does not fit all, one shoe type does not serve everyone’s purposes, and not very one likes the same color.
Basically the same thinking applies when looking at products to make money through Internet Marketing. Every Internet Marketing resource pitch out there claims to have discovered the “magic button” or “recipe for success” that you will only get from buying THEIR product. So what do you do? Well just like in the shoe store, try on the shoes! Only here, you start trying different Internet Marketing products to see if they live up to their “hype”!
