How has Va Tech incident influenced you?

The latest news reports have indicated that the shooter had mental problems and was sometimes ridiculed by some of his fellow students at VA Tech because of the way he spoke. Those who were shot were probably innocent victims who got caught in his crossfire. If, in his fragile mental state he may have been driven over the edge because of the taunting, how would you deal with co-workers or fellow students in the future? Have any of you attempted to reinforce in your children the importance of tolerance and taught them not to bully or mistreat people who are “different?” Many of the people on Yahoo seem very intolerant of other races or ethnic groups. I think this is a sad reflection of the society at large. Has this horrible crime made some people examine their own feelings about “eccentric people” and the manner in which they generally treat others?
Will C, you seem to have misinterpreted my question. This is just to brainstorm. I believe that whenever a tragedy like this occurs, we should all examine ourselves to see what lessons we can learn from it. We cannot move forward if we live in denial.

I feel extremely terrible about what has happened but their actions dont stay on their news for so long.. billions of iraqis dying,, noone hears anything.. 32 universtiy students die.. the whole of usa goes nuts..

Do you think if students of the Virgina Tech gun club would have been able to carry there weopons on campus, there may have been a chance this guy wouldnt have killed so many people? Last night on ABC’s News show, they talked to the students of the club. One of them said that if he would have been able to keep his weopon on his person along with the other members, they might have been able to take the killer out.
I thought it was evident that if someone was in a gun club, they’ve been through a gun safety program and lessons in firing a gun. Do some of you think that when you join a gun club they just give you a gun and tell you to go shooting?

Public Safety Announcements Too Technical For The Tech. School?

No Alarm system?
How about a bullhorn?
How about good, old fashioned, screaming your lungs out?
Cop cars have PA systems!?!?!?!

No! Instead they rely on e-mails some two hours after the first shooting?

YAHOO NEWS: “Virginia Tech President Charles Steger said authorities believed that the shooting at the dorm was a domestic dispute and mistakenly thought the gunman had fled the campus.

“We had no reason to suspect any other incident was going to occur,” he said.”

COMMENT: Why on earth would ANYONE ASSUME that the GUNMAN HAD FLED THE CAMPUS?

No! If you are going to ASSUME ANYTHING then you assume that the gunman is HIDING somewhere on campus and that everyone else is still in danger.

I hate to be someone who starts the blame game, but this one seems rather obvious. Those students who were killed with the second wave of attack… Their blood is on the administration’s hands as much as the killer’s.

Well, then I hardly think that expecting a college campus (No matter the size) to have a similar system in place is unreasonable.
