Did the Virginia Tech massacre make you feel less safe in your school?

February 21, 2012 · Filed Under Tech News

What part of the world do you live in?

By the way, despite the headlines and endless news stories and the great number of people killed, and the panic over school security, the chances of a gunmen shooting up a school or college are still about the same as a school bus accident.

A little yeah….but as long as our school is prepared and always practices the drills and stuff in case an emergency like that. I’m also scared because I’m going to camp with my school and we’re going to a mountain really high and I’m afraid the bus might tip over or something. Oh and I live in California.

i live 6 hours from there, but my cousin just graduated from there not long ago. i can’t believe someone could be so non-caring and satanic as he was, he should have been put in a crazy hospital for the rest of his life before that happened. i feel sorry for all of those innocent students who lost their lives just because some sicko couldn’t deal with his life. it’s kinda scary knowing that my baby will grow up someday and have to worry about who they go to school that’s psycho and that everyone has to worry about school safety and how kids get guns at such a young age nowadays. where are their parents in these situations?and why don’t they try talking to someone about their problems instead of taking innocent peoples lives? i don’t understand. it’s sick

I live in Atlanta and have one sister in elementary school, another sister and brother in middle school and a brother that goes to GA Tech. I fear for their safety. Just tonight as I was watching the news some three high schoolers took guns to school today and made threats to students. I figure its because the shooter in the Virginia shooting got so much media these kids think its their way to get on TV. Whats the world coming to when your kids are not even safe in school.

I think everyone is scared. This is just a wake up call. I think if people get desperate this is what they do.. I would think most people are concerned and at best shaken. I think i feel sad that someone had to do such terrible things to be heard. I think universities are like any other place they have losts of people with losts of issues and problems and things can get out of hand in such a hurry. Help is just a little too late in this case. I think people feel the same everywhere, concerned and scared. I hope this is a chance to look at a cause and not just solutions. Security is only a measure of action for something that has already occured. Schools, churches, and any other public place are all targets. People can only try and prepare for something they think will never happen. I hope that We learn somethin by this.

I am TTC and seeing all these school shootings, local school “bomb threat” scares, and now a University shootings it is very scary. I dunno about any of you, but when I was in school, I also felt that was the safest place. All these massacres are very scary, but unfortunately we cannot do anything about it. No one is safe anywhere.

Also that is why you don’t piss off those quiet people.

I went to VT, and I can honestly say that is the last university I would have EVER expected something like this to happen.

YES!My middle school went into lockdown right away, and just two days before somebody had pulled the fir alarm and stuff like that. We all had NO idea what was going on.

It happened only a few minutes away from us.

No, not really. It happening did not increase the chances of something like it happening elsewhere. I live in Marin County, California.

Not at all. It may be too uncommon, but think about the odds of it actually happening. I live in the Midwest.

The problem with gun laws is that they only protect the people who don’t follow them.

It was really an awful tragedy. I pray for the families of the victims. I do get nervous.

i live in colorado (near columbine) and well it didn’t make me more scared because i was scared already. i know that i am not safe anywhere and i’m extremely careful about watching out for crazy creepy people. since i’m 13 i’m at high risk for stupid rapests and kidnappers and stuff so i’m very very very suspisious of just about every one i see just in case and i do the same in school. if i see someone walking around in my school without a name tag or a badge i go to the office and tell them just in case and i think everyone should do the same.
my personal belief is that we should all just take every gun and weapon and bomb in the world and shoot them into space or something and just work through everything with words and love.
life is about love not hate!

  21. Jessie on February 22nd, 2012 7:52 am

I don’t attend school, but as a parent, I worry about it. It’s happening more and more. I just don’t understand it. Why would you take another life because you’re miserable and their not? I also try to put myself in the gunman’s parents situation. Boy, if it were me, I’d be wondering where I went wrong. It really is a scary thing.
