Media responsible for the Racism after VA tech Massacre?
You know while watching several news channels during the last few days I noticed that the Media is very one sided on things. First off I do not in anyway agree with what Cho did but I feel compelled to say that I heard news broadcasters on several stations call him “evil” even before they knew the full story. And then when they found out he had post traumatic syndrome they still call him “evil.” Now many of the asian american students around the country are feeling the heat yet people seem to forget that 90% of rapists and school shooters thus far were caucasian people. I never understood why when caucasians commit similar crimes, the porpertraitors are looked at as an individual basis and not as a group yet it is not the other way around for almost all other racial groups but now I am very convinced the media plays a big role in it. Anyone else agree?
Uh.. that that first comment mr. Rev…its clear you are a racist yourself so don’t answer anymore of my questions. And thats not true, the media did speculate much about his racist before hand stating on the air that they “believed” he was a chinese foreign exchange student. Get your facts straight. And dont say nothing was done to asians because I personally know of two good friends of mine that had racist encounters already.
it was so much better a few decades ago when Oz was all White. When all people were of the same race, racism is unheard of.
Australia was really foolish to change their Whites only policy.

This is garbage. The media hid his nationality until they couldn’t hide it anymore. And no one has retaliated against his people even though Koreans did retaliate against us after an incident there.
agree with your point 100%.The media unfortunatly has a huge impact on society in general in every aspect of the matter. The media relishes in stories like these and milk it for all they can. What we as a nation must realize is that in a sick and twisted way individuals such as Cho are glorified by the media bombarding us with pictures, videos, interviews etc of such events. It is my belief that this set a standard for society and individuals with serious mental health issues. First the Columbine incident many people died now this in which 32 people died, what will be next someone wanting to surpass this number? America is an ethnically diverse country and as individuals living in this country many of us take pride on how our country has evolved to reflect the melting pot ideology. As a nation we have pushed for decades to create diversity in America; attempting to create a more just society yet we are reminded everyday of the racism that continues to exisit. Society tends to hold misperceptions, negative stereotypes only enhanced by the media and things we are bombarded with on a daily basis. we cannot make progress as a nation in creating unity and equality for everyone when so many of do not believe in it. Racial prejudice both individually and institutional continue to play important role in achieving equality and it seems it might be an unattainable goal. We believe in America as a land of opportunity and equality, yet so many people in our country are deprived of the basic human right to be treated with respect and dignity. What makes one race better than any other? This country did and does not belong to any race we all co-habitat in this nation and must come to terms with the fact that as time progresses diversity will not diminish but continue to progress. For those of you believing otherwise you are ignorant in believing and assuming that you or anyone else is better than me or any other individual based on skin color. That is what it is skin color pigmentation of skin, it does not determine an entire race’s quality of character in individuals. Although we may belong to one culture, ethncity or race we must be viewed as individuals whether it be Hispanic, Black, Asian, Indian, etc… do not judge a book by it’s cover.
This whole situation was sad…..
Well, I agree somewhat but that is not totally true. Tim McVeigh was almost immediately named a Christian martyr by most of the media and they tried a link him to militia groups. And White Supremacists. But you are right as far as not pointing at whites in general. But I think you overstate the media position a little in this case. They were simply stating facts. If it were a woman, they would have said that. A black.
A Chinese. A Russian. Yes, and any of them would have been labeled as “evil.” It isn’t though, like Koreans have a history of violence in our country and you will always have idiots that group people together to place blame.
But what amazes me about this whole thing is that liberals have created a system in this country where no one can speak badly about anyone, yet now these same liberals want to know why no one reported Cho’s behavior before or pushed for him to get mental help. And that is amazing because minorities have a permanent victim status in our country given to them by these same liberals. But still his mental state was not, in my opinion, that bad that he needed to be committed. If we commit every person with mental problems 3/4 of our country will be in hospitals.
I am white and was Tim McVeigh evil? Of course. Was Cho evil? Of course. Anyone that does the kind of things that they did, can not be excused by claiming mental problems. That does not wash for me.
